CCCPA and the League of Arab States Sign MoU
06 March 2023 - 06 March 2023

The Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding (CCCPA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the League of Arab States on 6 March 2023 to enhance cooperation in the areas of common interest, especially conflict resolution, sustaining peace, as well as strengthening the implementation of the peace, security and development nexus.

The MoU was signed by H.E. Ahmed Nehad Abdel-Latif, Director General of CCCPA and H.E. Khalid bin Mohammed Manzlawi, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of Political and International Affairs Sector on behalf of the League of Arab States Secretariat. The signing ceremony took place at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo.

Driven by a common will to strengthen capacities of Arab countries, the MoU provides a framework to reinforce collaboration between the two parties through joint activities, namely training programs, seminars, and workshops in a range of areas of peace and security, particularly conflict resolution; peacekeeping; peacebuilding; disarmament, demobilization and reintegration; preventing radicalization and extremism leading to terrorism;  promoting the role of women in peace and security; and combating transnational threats as well as climate change.

The MoU coincides with Egypt presiding over the 159th session of the League of Arab States Council. It also builds on previous cooperation activities including the first in-person training course held for the Arab Women Mediators Network (November 2021).

It is noteworthy that CCCPA is the only Arab civilian training center in the field of peacekeeping. Its mandate encompasses peacebuilding and has the ability of delivering its activities also in Arabic. Furthermore, CCCPA is the Secretariat of the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development as well as the International Association of Peacekeeping Training Centers (IAPTC). In addition, the Center was chosen to chair the African Union Network of Think Tanks for Peace (NETT4PEACE), recently launched by the African Union.
