CCCPA Participates in the 9th African Standby Force Training Implementation Workshop

Libreville, Gabon - CCCPA Advisor on Peacekeeping, Brigadier General (Ret.) Ehab Khedr, represented the Center at the African Standby Force (ASF) Training Implementation Workshop (TIW), organized by the African Union Commission (AUC), in collaboration with the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS)--from 24-27 October 2017.

The workshop was the ninth in a series of annual consultations, organized by the African Union Peace and Security Department (AU PSD), to coordinate and harmonize training activities with Training Centers of Excellence and Training Institutions (TCEs/TIs), in accordance with the ASF Training Policy and Directives. It aimed at reviewing the progress on the implementation of the 2017 ASF Training Directives, discussing the 2018-2020 ASF Training Directives, and taking stock of the implementation of the Draft 2016-2020 Maputo Five-Year Work Plan on the Enhancement of the ASF.

The workshop was attended by 70 participants, drawn from the AUC, Regional Economic Communities/Regional Mechanisms (RECs/RMs), Defence Advisers/Attachés (DAs), the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), the African Peace Support Trainers Association (APSTA), TCEs/TIs and training partners.

Key findings from the workshop included: (1) revising and simplifying the ASC roster application process, (2) exploring funding opportunities to support the implementation of ASF activities, and (3) developing and conducting more police trainings.
