27 May 2015

Cairo, Egypt - CCCPA hosted a dinner for the Forum of Libyan Tribal Leaders at the Grand Nile Towers Hotel on May 27, 2015. The forum was organized by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and brought together more than 300 Libyan tribal leaders and elders aimed at creating an environment conducive to the creation of a Libyan dialogue on peace and reconciliation. The dinner was attended by several Egyptian officials as well as members of the diplomatic circuit.

During the proceedings, Counselor Hatem Elatawy, Deputy Director and Project Director of CCCPA, conveyed that the political developments in Libya are a priority to CCCPA. In addition, he also stated that "the Center will exert all the necessary effort required to help return peace and security to Libya." Elatawy also highlighted the integral role that Libyan tribal elders play in bringing about peace--and their key role in national reconciliation--as they constitute an important segment in Libyan society.

Sheikh Adel El Faydy, President of the Preparatory Committee of the Libyan Tribal Leaders Forum, praised CCCPA’s efforts in providing training and capacity building activities for Libyans, especially tribal elders, in the areas of mediation and conflict resolution. He further highlighted CCCPA’s prominent achievements in its efforts towards attaining peace and security in Libya, namely organizing the First Libyan Tribal Elders Forum in Cairo during October 2014, and the training conducted for the Preparatory Committee in preparation for the current forum (from 25 to 28 May 2015).
