28 September 2020

Cairo, Egypt - On 27 September 2020, H.E. Sameh Shoukry, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, presided over the first meeting of CCCPA’s Board of Directors (BOD). The BOD is CCCPA’s top decision-making body, and includes representatives of the Egyptian Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Defense, Interior and Higher Education and Scientific Research, as well as prominent experts in the fields of peace and security, development, and governance. It was established following the re-chartering of the Center as the “Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding” in 2017, according to Prime Ministerial Decree no.1396/2017.

In his opening remarks, H.E. Sameh Shoukry, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, highlighted CCCPA’s important contribution to peace and security in Africa, the Arab World and globally, including in its capacity as the Secretariat of the International Association of Peacekeeping Training Centers (IAPTC) and the Secretariat of the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development, Africa’s premier policy platform on the nexus between peace and development, launched last year under the patronage of H.E. Abdelfattah el-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt.

Before the meeting, the Foreign Minister and members of the Board toured the new premises of the Cairo Center, following a renovation project that lasted 18 months. Equipped with a state of the art training facility, thanks to the contributions and support of CCCPA’s strategic partners, the Government of Japan and the UNDP, the new building will bolster the Center’s capacity to expand its training activities, and will house the Secretariat of the Aswan Forum.
