About Us > History
In 1994, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs founded the Cairo Regional Center for Conflict Resolution and Peacekeeping in Africa (CCCPA) as an independent, non-partisan center of excellence in training, capacity building and research in the fields of conflict prevention and resolution, crisis management, peacekeeping, peacebuilding, transnational threats, and preventing radicalization and extremism leading to terrorism.

In 2017, Prime Ministerial Decree no.1396/2017 rechartered CCCPA as the "Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding" - an independent public agency under the suzerainty of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, with an international geographical mandate that covers all peace and security-related issues.

CCCPA is also Egypt’s leading Think/Do Tank in the areas of African peace and security and a major voice in critical policy debates about the continent’s peace, security and governance issues.

The Center’s mandate is the non-violent prevention and mitigation of conflict in Africa, primarily through supporting African local, national, regional, and continental actors in their efforts to achieve peace, security and prosperity in Africa.

CCCPA is an African Union center of excellence. It is the only civilian peace training, education and capacity building center in the Arab world. Entrusted with meeting the training needs of the North African Brigade (NARC) of the African Standby Force (ASF), the Center is also at the forefront of the NARC’s efforts to train civil affairs officers and to develop the region’s civilian roster.

On the national front, CCCPA works closely with the Egyptian Armed Forces and Police to provide pre-deployment training for Egyptian troops participating in United Nations and African Union peacekeeping operations.
