CCCPA Participates in Expert Group Meeting on "Women, Peace and Security"
09 December 2016

CCCPA Women, Peace and Security Program Officer, Sarah Abdelgelil, represented the Center at the Expert Group Meeting under the theme “Women, Peace and Security: The Role of Institutions at Times of Peace and of War in the Arab Region”. The meeting – organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) in Beirut from 3-4 November 2016 – brought together international and regional experts to discuss a draft publication.

In light of her participation in the Expert Group Meeting, Abdelgelil took part in a BBC Arabic Service episode of “Dunyana“(Our World).  Her interventions focused on the role of women in bringing about peace in the Arab region. Abdelgelil emphasized the fact that wider societal issues and concerns are brought to the table when women are involved in peace processes. The episode also addressed the importance of involving youth in formal political processes, and promoting dialogue between young people and policymakers.
