CCCPA Participates in the 3rd Challenges Forum Leadership Toolkit Report Back Workshop
Pretoria, South Africa – CCCPA participated in the third Challenges Forum Leadership Toolkit Report Back Workshop organized by the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) on 6-7 March 2019. The  aim of the workshop was to report back and discuss the progress achieved in updating the Considerations for Mission Leadership in United Nations Peacekeeping Operations (2010).

CCCPA and Australian Civil-Military Centre (ACMC) are the co-chairs of Task Force 2, responsible for reviewing and updating the chapters related to the primacy of politics and sustaining peace.

Building on the 2008 United Nations Principles and Guidelines (“the Capstone Doctrine”), Considerations for Mission Leadership in United Nations Peacekeeping Operations seeks to identify some of the principles and concepts underpinning the core functions of multidimensional peacekeeping. The Study also serves as an introduction or training material for new practitioners, as well as a reference document for experienced peacekeeping leaders. While it is primarily intended for the mission leadership team, the Considerations Study may be of interest to anyone wishing to gain a better understanding of the host of issues and challenges facing contemporary peacekeeping operations.

The Considerations Study was developed in 2010 by the Challenges Forum Partners, which include leading political, military, police, and academic institutions from around the world. The Study was also extensively reviewed by senior-level peacekeeping practitioners and received input from numerous experts in the UN system. As such, the Considerations Study is a true product of “partnership”—an essential ingredient of successful peacekeeping today.
